Dear Friends, There are 2 very special events in the first half of March that I am sponsoring and would like to invite you all to attend. Details are below. Please join me as we celebrate and honor our community! See you there! --Mayor McLaughlin
You are invited to a special session of Mayor McLaughlin’s monthly Meet-with-the-Mayor featuring Abel Pineda of Richmond High School and Adam Zittel of Salesian High School presenting their award winning poetry performances. Abel and Adam were finalists in the county-wide Poetry Out Loud competition on February 7 in Lafayette. Both students were selected from a large pool of participants from their schools to go to the finals, where Abel Pineda took third place. Over 2000 students from 12 schools in Contra Costa County participated in this year’s Poetry Out Loud competition. Students select a poem that resonates with them, study it and perform it to bring out its meaning. The program seeks to promote a love of literature in the next generation through recitation and performance. Mayor Gayle McLaughlin and Assemblymember Nancy Skinner will be presenting Abel and Adam with certificates of recognition. All are welcome!
